Educational Resources

Running a common interest ownership community association (condominium, co-op, time share, or home owners association) is complicated.  Discovering what you need to know about the administration of your property takes some digging whether you are a board member or an owner.  A principal goal of SCCA is to help you with that task.  Therefore we will add information about educational resources here as we come across it.

On-Line Instructional Video and "Webinars"

"Anatomy of a Disaster Claim" This excellent on-line "webinar," by the Community Association Leadership Lobby, provides valuable advice about what to do before, during, and after a disaster, such as a hurricane, to protect the financial interests of your association and its property owners.  Originally broadcast July 23, 2010.

"Community Association Legal Briefs" from Becker & Poliakoff.  Short video presentations about a variety of matters of interest to common interest ownership communities.

"Flood vs. Property Insurance: Do You Understand Which Covers What?"  This "webinar," by the law firm of Becker & Poliakoff, was conducted on August 19, 2010.  The link here is to the introductory page, which includes some useful information.  To view the webinar itself, once you have this page open, click on the blue "Please feel free to view the webinar in its entirety." link.  This is "must have" information for associations.

Sarasota County Government Online This is a link to the "Neighborhood Services" section of the Sarasota County government's website.  It in turn has links to educational videos for condominium boards prepared by the Division of Florida Condominiums, Timeshares and Mobile Homes of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.  See the "Watch" section about half way down on the page.

Public Libraries

SCCA furnishes and maintains a reference shelf in four Brevard Libraries.  The documents we furnish are chosen to be of value to common interest ownership properties - the condominiums, HOAs, cooperatives and time shares. We buy the books and their updates and we donate them to the libraries at Cocoa Beach, Cocoa, Melbourne and Titusville  The libraries file all of them with a common reference number so they appear together on a "Condo Shelf."  We furnish Gray's Compendium, Managing the Florida Condominium, Condominium Concept, and other useful items.  Ask the reference librarian where the Condo Shelf is located.
